Depending on the group and the purpose of the visit, it may be possible for you to be given a tour of Veldzicht. However, we only give tours if they will not be disruptive for our patients and staff. We hold an Open Day once every two years.
No. Veldzicht can accommodate 36 asylum seekers suffering from psychiatric problems. They can be admitted temporarily to receive treatment. Once their situation has improved, they are returned to a reception centre belonging to the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers.
One of the wards at Veldzicht falls under the legislation governing prisons. This is used to accommodate aliens from the Ter Apel penal institution. These are aliens who have committed or are suspected of having committed a crime (aliens within the criminal justice system). They receive psychiatric treatment at Veldzicht. If their situation is stable, they return to the Ter Apel penal institution to serve their sentence or await the court hearing. Should they be unable to return to the penal institution, at Veldzicht we will prepare them, together with the Repatriation & Departure Service, to return to their country of origin.
