Are patients allowed outside the centre?

Yes, from time to time patients at Veldzicht are allowed to leave the centre. They may cycle around Balkbrug, visit the snack bar or go to the supermarket to do some shopping. Others venture a little further afield and visit Zwolle or Dedemsvaart, for example.

Leaving the confines of the centre is a key part of the treatment process. Patients learn how to deal with complex situations that we encounter in everyday life. The time they spend outside the centre is built up gradually. Initially, they are accompanied when they go out and about. It is only after a certain time that they are allowed to set out on their own.

Which patients are permitted to go outside the centre depends on their residency status and condition. Patients who have not been granted residency status in the Netherlands do not leave the centre.
